Reverse turning
From WikiWOOD
Reverse turning a platter, 16 inches x 2 inches, Honey Locust.
Many designs of manufactured or shop built equipment are used. The picture of the platter mounted for reverse turning shows one method. The tail stock is used to hold the platter against a piece of 3/4 inch plywood mounted on a face plate. The picture illustrates the area previously occupied by the spigot used to turn this piece. The area is larger than the spigot for design purposes. The nub being held by the tailstock will be removed with a chisel and sanded to match.
There are many techniques for holding the work for reverse turning:- Using a jam chuck
- Using a chuck with a set of flat jaws attached
- Using a donut chuck
- Using a vacuum chuck
- Using a longwood chuck
- Using cole jaws with your scroll chuck. These are also called Button Jaws.
