Tool Steel

Steel for turning tools has been traditionally made from High Carbon Steel. High Speed Steel has been the steel of choice since about 1980. High Speed Steel (HSS) will take the heat from grinding without loosing the temper of the steel. HSS and other alloys are usually hardened between 60-65 on the Rockwell Hardness Scale.
