Welcome
Welcome Joel, and thanks for your help. Check out WikiWOOD:Maintenance templates where we list some templates such as Template:Expand which I just added to your bowl gouge page. See Special:Whatlinkshere/Template:Expand and you will see that the template not only standardizes appearance but serves a helpful purpose.
We used to have images for all these templates, but they have obviously got lost somewhere. Toolrest 12:13, 17 January 2009 (CST)
Template categories
Something strange has happened to Category:Templates and I wonder if you have reloaded any backups or done anything that will affect them?
I recently recategorized most of them so that they don't all appear in Category:Templates, putting them in sub categories instead. Now, they are all back in Category:Templates. The really odd thing is that their history pages and difference statements still show my edits, the edit still looks good on the edit page, but the template pages and category pages aren't reflecting these edits.
I know there is some weird thing that the template page has to be edited to reflect changes made in the doc subpage, but I thought all was well and don't understand why it should revert back to this mess. Any ideas? Toolrest 06:33, 22 January 2009 (CST)
Hey Derek,
I actually have not been working on the woodbase wiki at all. I'm doing all the dev work on another instance at zysman.org.
Let me take a look and see if something happened. I did see there was a cpanel update the other evening, but I don't know if they are related.
Let me do some investigating.Zunigene 16:23, 22 January 2009 (CST)
- Thanks. Don't waste too much time on it. There is something weird about templates, and I guess I need to learn more about them. Toolrest 16:37, 22 January 2009 (CST)
- OK, I found the problem. I had edited Template:Documentation subpage to put it in Category:Templates. Big mistake, because that included every template that uses it in that category. To get rid of the problem, I can open and save (without changes) every template and /doc page. Toolrest 13:00, 23 January 2009 (CST)
- Just FYI I didn't need to edit all those templates. I thought I was really going nuts at first, but everytime I reloaded the templates category, there were fewer and fewer listed. I guess the processing is spread over time. It sure makes debugging difficult:) Toolrest 13:12, 23 January 2009 (CST)
- Tell me about it. there appears to be about a 30 minute delay between when you make a system change, and when it seems to take effect. It certainly makes things challenging ;) Zunigene 13:21, 23 January 2009 (CST)
Time Stamp Question
When one does the 4 Tilde sig, the time stamp comes up according to my box's settings, CST. Times relate and make sense. When you open a recent change page or a page with some type of system time --- you get a weird time that I calculate at GMT +13 time. Is fixing this part of the upgrade or is it something else?--stnick 21:27, 23 January 2009 (CST)
- Huh that is weird. I think it is something else. It may have something to do with the actual system time being set to a different TZ although GMT+13 is more than a little bizarre. Sigh....another weird one ;)
Zunigene 21:36, 23 January 2009 (CST)
- It all looks ok to me. John, did you check Date and Time under the My Preferences tab? The time stamp seems to be in CST for me too, so I guess that is where the server is, and you too? Toolrest 05:07, 24 January 2009 (CST)
- I checked the setting there and even did a reload to clear the cache as directed. Still shows the server time as 15:21 and local time as 21:21. My offset is set to the normal of +6. If you look at the time stamp in the Recent Change Page they seem to be consistently this server time. Evidently the GMT +13 was a late night calculation mistake on my part. <GRIN> --stnick 09:29, 24 January 2009 (CST)
- Its all good, we all need to look out for little things like this. I've noticed that some of these little things actually have some serious implications (like the image issues). No worries about the late night miscalc, I was wondering if we had something set for New Zealand somewhere ;) Zunigene 10:04, 24 January 2009 (CST)
Patroled Edits and Log
On the recent change page, I see a filter patrolled edits and on the log page there are patrol logs. What part of the software is patrolling for what? --stnick 22:14, 23 January 2009 (CST)
- It looks like when this was originally setup there were some patrols setup. I honestly don't know what they do, or what patrolling means. Are there any issues with editing these pages? If so, I'll start investigating it. If not, I will put this in the queue behind the upgrade, short url's, image munging and timezone weirdness.
Let me know. Zunigene 22:27, 23 January 2009 (CST)
- Possibly related to the Patroller extension wikimedia:Extension:Patroller. See also wikipedia:Wikipedia:Patrols. Probably not something we need just yet, but we should be aware of the options when the site goes public and expands. But it is a big overhead in time to set up and use. Toolrest 05:50, 24 January 2009 (CST)
- You are as usual right! I'll cross it off the priority list :) Zunigene 10:05, 24 January 2009 (CST)
- Priority OK with me. I noticed it wasn't doing much logging and just got curious. I tend to do that! <GRIN> --stnick 09:25, 24 January 2009 (CST)
Template documentation
Joel, I have added a lot of material to Help:Templates in an attempt to make it easier for users to create templates. I would appreciate your comments. --Toolrest 17:48, 6 February 2009 (CST)
Permissions
Joel, is there any chance that I can have my permission level changed. There are a couple of issues I need to take care of:
- a number of pages that need deleting.
- the file upload page needs {{copyright-status}} embedding in it some how, along with a reminder to add a category and description.
--Derek 05:31, 13 February 2009 (CST)
- Of course! You should be at admin level regardless. Taking care of this now. Zunigene 09:35, 13 February 2009 (CST)
- DONE!
- Thanks. I have figured out how to delete pages. Editing Special:Upload looks like it will be more problematic, and I may need to come back to you for assistance. I was hoping a little edit tab would open up, but it seems it ain't gonna be that easy.--Derek 13:59, 13 February 2009 (CST)
- I give up. I found a couple of Manual pages about special pages, but I can't gain access to any of the files I might need to be able to change. It won't give me any directory listings. I'm searching for something like http://wiki.woodbase.org/includes/specials/upload_body.php, but that is just a guess on my part. Any ideas?--Derek 14:22, 13 February 2009 (CST)
