Getting started, Sharing your woodworking experience

First, read the rules below.
Second, go to Category:Help to see how pages are created, edited, navigated, etc ...
Third, visit the sandbox. This is an area where you can freely edit and experiment without fear of breaking anything.

When you have an article in mind, search the topic to see if it has been already been started or at least has a link. Again, just because an article has already been started does not mean that it is complete or cannot be expanded and collaborated.

Even if you have little or no experience with wiki's, you can contribute by simply putting your content into an article ... don't worry about formatting. Typing {{wikify}} at the bottom of your article places it in a list of articles that could use some formatting or organizing. Because you article will contain the {{wikify}} tag, experienced wiki users can find it later and fix it up.

If you need help finding your way around, take a look at Guide for newcomers, and if you want to learn how to write a great WikiWOOD article, a good place to start is WikiWOOD:Writing quality articles.

Be Bold: Don't wait until everything is just right. It will never be perfect. There will always be challenges, obstacles and less than perfect conditions. So what. Get started now. With each step you take, you will grow stronger and stronger, more and more skilled, more and more self-confident and more and more successful. ~ Mark Victor Hansen

Getting help

  • The main help pages contain information about how pages are created, edited, navigated, etc ...
  • Search your help topic. Tip: When searching, be sure you have selected the 'help' category otherwise the default search will not show help items.
  • If you are still stuck, go to the Help Desk and leave a question.
  • The wiki forums at woodBASE.org is a good place to post questions and make announcements.

Pages flagged for expansion or cleanup

Don't know where to start or are out of fresh ideas for new articles? You can help by improving existing articles that have been flagged for maintenance.

Articles that need to be wikified ... this may be the most important tag of all!

By typing {{wikify}} at the bottom of an article places it in the list of articles that need wikification.

Because this allows the novice user to contribute their experience, even with little or no wiki knowledge, the {{wikify}} tag is perhaps the most important tag we have.

Novice users can contribute by simply dumping their content into a new article and flag it with the {{wikify}} tag. More experienced wiki users can then come behind them and fix up these articles.

example of the {{wikify}} tag ...
