Policies and Guidelines are in place to make WikiWOOD an effective place to archive and share knowledge. They express standards that have community consensus. Policies are considered a standard that all users should follow, whereas guidelines are more advisory in nature.
Policies
- wikiWOOD is a knowledge base not an advertising opportunity. All pages should be subjective and unbiased.
- Don't be rude. Always assume that your fellow contributors are trying to help.
- Don't bite the newcomers. Do not be hostile toward newcomers. Remember to assume good faith first and welcome them in a clear, polite manner. (see wikipedia's guidance [1])
- There is no best way. There will always be other ways to do the things you may have been doing successfully for 20 years. What is best for you, in your circumstances, may not be best for someone else. Always try to explain the context of your methods. A good article will show different ways of doing the same thing, and mention the pros and cons of each.
- Be bold when updating pages. Wikis like ours develop faster when everybody helps to fix problems, correct grammar, add facts, make sure wording is accurate, etc. We would like everyone to be bold and help make WikiWOOD a better resource. (see wikipedia's guidance [2])
- Copyright. When you edit pages, you agree to release your contribution into the public domain. If you don't want this or can't do this because of license restrictions, please don't edit any pages. You are responsible for ensuring that material you submit is free of copyright restrictions. See Copyright issues
- Take a world view. This wiki should be useful to woodworkers from around the globe. Please give some thought to how articles can be written, structured, named and categorized so that they reflect this value.
- Take a broad view. This wiki should be useful to hobbyists and professionals, newbies and masters.
- Give and take. Learn and share.
